The Amazonas State shows great diversity and abundance of vegetal formations (5,000 botanical species), 90% of this surface is covered of rain forests, 5 % savannas and 5 % of others many vegetal formations.
At the Amazonas State the forests are classified as: wet tropical forest, very wet subtropical forest, very wet tropical forest and pluvial forest.
The fauna shows a great diversity and abundance of animals: 190 mammals species, 11 marsupials species, 12 carnivorous species, 1 of sirenians (Manatee), 1 of perisodactils (Tapir), 5 of artiodactils (deer and peccary), 1 of cetacean (fresh water dolphin), 159 of reptiles, 25 known families of fish and 674 species of birds, a very real paradise to the birdwatchers.
The Amazonas State have 4 National Parks with an extension of 5,476,500 hectares, 18 Natural Monuments covering 3,650,000 hectares, 1 biosphere reserve measuring 8,871,500 ha, 1 protective hydrographic river basin. All of these are under special protection.
